Nathan Burd, 29, has spent the last decade studying the political process, advocating on behalf of Republican principles, and serving the public in a variety of ways.
In the summer of 1999, Nathan was chosen to serve as a Legislative Intern in the Washington, D.C. office of former Congressman John Kasich. This experience gave Nathan a first-hand look at the federal government and valuable insight into the American political system.
Nathan received a B.A. in Political Science from The Ohio State University in the summer of 2000 and he immediately took a job as an Administrative Aide to former State Representative and current Congressman Patrick Tiberi.
“I was really drawn to state government after serving as an Aide to Representative Tiberi,” says Nathan. “Many political science graduates want to rush straight to Washington to begin a career, but I felt like I could have a greater impact working at the Ohio Statehouse.”
In 2001, Nathan began working for State Representative Larry Wolpert (R-Hilliard) as an Administrative and Legislative Aide. His duties included helping Franklin County constituents work through the bureaucracy of state government to find answers to their questions and overseeing an internship program for local high school and college students. Nathan also worked to implement Representative Wolpert’s legislative agenda and they were successful in passing bills on a variety of issues. During his tenure with Representative Wolpert, Nathan served as the lead staff member on the Ohio House Local Government and Township Committee and the Ohio House Subcommittee on Growth and Land Use.
In 2004, Nathan joined the staff of Heartbeat International as the Director of International Program and Public Policy. In this role, Nathan is able to advocate on behalf of pro-family and pro-life principles. In the fall of 2004, Nathan implemented and directed a “get-out-the-vote” campaign to register new “values voters” all around the country. He has also become an internationally known pro-life advocate through his work with life-affirming pregnancy resource centers overseas.
Nathan has assisted various Republican political campaigns over the years, including President George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 and numerous other local and statewide candidates.
“Campaigns are so important because you can’t have legislative victories without electoral victories,” says Nathan.
In December of 2005, Nathan was mentioned in a Boston Globe article as an online discussion leader in the early stages of generating support for Govenor Mitt Romney’s potential presidential campaign.
In addition to his interest in politics and government, Nathan has also been active in community service. He served as a volunteer reading tutor at Innis Road Elementary School in Columbus from 2001-2003 and he was a Neighborhood Drive volunteer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2004 and 2005.
Nathan is a member of the Reynoldsburg Republican Club, the Ohio State Alumni Association, the New Century Project, and the Club For Growth.
Nathan and his wife Jolene reside in Reynoldsburg, Ohio and they attend Vineyard Christian Church in Pataskala.
